New York was one of the first cities to develop a major hardcore scene in the early 1980s. The scene has been focused around venues such as CBGBs and ABC No Rio. The New York scene was home to most of the early influential Youth crew bands, such as Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, Side By Side, and later bands like Shelter and Sick of it All.
