Arabic music is a term used to describe the music of Arabic-speaking people or countries.
Arab pop music, in particular the work of a small number of superstars, enjoys great popularity throughout the Arab world. It is derived from a long tradition of Arabic music produced in different regions and with shared characteristics. Peter van der Merwe explains that, "The common style that developed is usually called 'Islamic' or 'Arab', though in fact it transcends religious, ethnic, geographical, and linguistic boundaries," and it has been suggested that it be called the Near East (from Morocco to India) style."
