Why are you shutting down FoxyTunes Planet?
Almost two years ago, Yahoo! Music acquired the great team and technology behind FoxyTunes. FoxyTunes Planet was the best place to find everything about an artist from across the web and we've spent the last couple years working to bring this experience into Yahoo! Music. Earlier this year, we launched the new Yahoo! Music artist pages and the time has come to focus on the new pages and retire the FoxyTunes Planet. This will allow our team to focus on building the best music site possible. Will the Yahoo! Music artist pages have the same features as FoxyTunes Planet?
The Yahoo! Music artist pages have most of the same great features currently offered on FoxyTunes Planet. There is a team of great people that will continue to work on these pages to make them the best place to find out about your favorite music. When will the FoxyTunes Planet pages go away?
The FoxyTunes Planet pages will be shut down in the second half of January 2010.Will the FoxyTunes browser add-on continue to be supported?
Yes. The shut down of FoxyTunes Planet will not impact the FoxyTunes browser add-on. We will be focusing more of our energy on FoxyTunes and will be adding some great new features in the coming months. Stay tuned! What is FoxyTunes Planet?
FoxyTunes Planet is a universal personalized music aggregator. It aggregates music videos, photos, news, bios and much more from any number of sources all over the Web into one convenient place.
The Planet is universal - it can support any music site, service or store. Many great sites are already supported, and the list will be growing fast.
What makes the Planet different from the other music sites out there?
There are a lot of cool music sites and services out there and their number is constantly growing. The problem is that there are simply not enough hours in a day to discover, try and use all of these services.FoxyTunes Planet plans to solve this problem by integrating all the best music sites and services into one convenient place.
Each page on the Planet aggregates many resources from around the Web and allows you to instantly access the great things that are out there - be it artist radio stations, recommendation services, videos, photos, reviews and so on.
You say the Planet is 'Personalized'. What does this mean?
As always with FoxyTunes, you are free to decide what you see and how you see it. Each piece of content, such as albums from Amazon or radio stations on Last.fm is presented in a "widget" - a little panel that allows you to quickly browse through the content. You can add, remove, reorder and configure the widgets any way you like - to create your own unique view on the world of music. So, should I dump my current music service and join the Planet?
or, "Is this the next -the name of your favorite music site- killer?"On the contrary!
Just as with our universal browser add-on, our goal is to support and promote great music products and services that our users enjoy.
FoxyTunes doesn't replace your favorite services - it enhances them, brings them closer to you and allows using many of them together.
Isn't FoxyTunes a browser add-on?
FoxyTunes is a popular browser add-on that integrates between more than 30 music players and services into the Web browser. It works with both Firefox and IE, and was downloaded by more than 5 million users to date.Just like FoxyTunes integrates between many different music products, FoxyTunes Planet integrates between many different music sites and services. Together, they provide an integrated music experience that starts with listening to music with FoxyTunes on your computer and goes all the way to exploring the world of music on FoxyTunes Planet.
How will the Planet work with the FoxyTunes browser add-on?
The two will be integrated and will complement each other's functionality.Together, they will allow you to discover the world of music related to what you are listening to, with one click - right in your browser. It doesn't matter whether you are listening to music with iTunes, Pandora, Winamp or any other player or service - the tiny FoxyTunes browser add-on instantly connects you to the Planet - your universal music dashboard.
