Summary: The Best One
Details: I've tried numerous players. Winamp et al don't even start doing what this totally reconfigurable, all-playing, non-memory-devouring player does. And it's free.
Pros: Audio quality, ease-of-use, utterly configurable, plays everything
Cons: can be a bit tricky to set up for a first-time user
Period used: over a year

foobar2000 0.8.3 |
Summary: Highly Customizable Experience
Details: If you tire of squinting at the tiny skinned text in Winamp, wish that you could customize your media player more, or really enjoy working with configuration scripts, than foobar2000 is just right. Fueled by an open SDK and highly modularized core, developers have created tons of components that can completely change the interface, add on advanced DSP effects, and allow for input or output in just about any format available. All of these components can be added or deleted at will, allowing you to use a player thats as robust or slim as you desire. After you breach the learning curve, you'll never want to go back.
Pros: Strong modular design, uses native Windows widgets
Cons: Takes time to set up 'just right,' documentation is lacking
Period used: 1 year
Other products used: Winamp, QCD

Details: Foobar 2000 with foo_columns just gets brought to the front when you try to use the controls inside firefox. The only option that actually works is mute. If I use the fix posted in the forums nothing seems to work at all.

Cons: Very steep learning curve

Summary: No frills, just good sound
Details: Foobar may not be the prettiest player out there, but it's very good at what it's made for. Uncompromising playback quality and very low resource usage, not to mention plugins for more formats than I knew existed. Built-in support for replaygain means no more lunging for the volume control between tracks.

foobar2000 0.8.3 |
Summary: Brilliant overall, apart from gui issues
Details: Sound quality is second to none. Features and sheer user power is phenominal in comparison to other players. Takes a while to get used to, though once One starts getting used to Foobar2000, it becomes second nature, and impossible to live without. The "special" download isn't that large, and includes support for most known, and unknown, formats. There are a lot of features even in this small download that I didn't install. The user interface, on the large part, is simple (at least at the very front - not in the menus and configuration!), and easy to understand. Aesthetically, it looks very good in comparison to most players. Fits into the XP theme environment, at least on the large part, very well. There are two gui issues that bug me. One is the actual toolbar buttons aren't exactly polished. Secondly, moreover, the menu bar "buttons" don't fit in with XP themes, onmouseover & onclick. They look like regular generic buttons rather than actual menu buttons (compare them to explorer). Still, much better than most other players in the gui department even. Mostly fits in.
Pros: Sound quality, low resource needs, blending gui, power freak-esque
Cons: Slight gui bug, ugly toolbar button graphics,

foobar2000 v0.8.3 |
Summary: Best Audio Player Ever
Details: The ease of use is a little lacking, merely because there's so much power there that for the n00b it'd be too much. The user interface is the greatest. No useless skins to get in the way, no skins to have to coordinate with your visual style, just raw power. Never mind that it has more technical features than any of the other players out there and has the most powerful masstagger in existence. There's no reason to use any other player (for music) once you've got this one figured out.

Summary: it;'s visually ugly.
Details: I like foobar a lot, it gives me a lot of control over my music (easy tagging, tabbed playlists, etc), and it always sounds great. But the interface, though fairly easy to use and powerful when controlling the program, is really, really ugly, so FoxyTunes is a real blessing, it takes up a lot less screen space and accomplishes the same thing as a Winamp windowshade always had for me. Thanks a lot, Charlie Adams
Pros: Sounds great, does a lot for me very easily
Cons: It's ugly.

Pros: Great sound quality, customizability (NON-visual...), ease of use, low mem usage
Cons: Visual

Summary: exactly what i needed
Details: uses tiny amount of memory, not much to look at but does everything you could want, everything is customizable: context menus, the menu bar, the audio processing chain (don't want a volume control? save the memory!), all keyboard shortcuts/global hotkeys and did i mention it uses no memory. playlists in tabs is awesome. a database & search that you can basically code yourself.
Pros: database, files in tabs, customizable everything - including the audio processing chain, only turn on what you need, tabbed playlists
Cons: maybe not as pretty as the others, difficult to tweak the database

Summary: love at first sight
Details: i have been looking for a player that fits my taste for quite some time, i went and tried almoust everything i could get my hands on. all players out there play music ;P, but non met my needs till i decided to give winamp another shot after being really disapointed with its previous updates. well, i loved it and thought i had really found the one player for all my needs. it does everything, has tons of skins and its REALLY user friendly and the best overall player IMO. anyway, it was all good untill i realized i needed more control over the audio and i had heard about foobar2k from many others. i decided to give it a try. to sum it up it was a love at first sight ;P. TOTTAL controll over audio and support of all audio files and tons of features not found anywhere else. within 20 min i had already decided to make it my default player. havent uninstalled winamp yet cause i like to turn it on once in a while to just lough at it lol. foobar > bells and whistles
Pros: low on resorces, easy to use yet lots of features, tottal control over audio, library handles tons of media w/o problem, replaygain, DSP, tottal support for all audio formats for which i am more then ready to give up video
Cons: no video support
Period used: 1 month

Summary: An excellent player!
Details: It's not bloated, has lots of support for audio formats like MPC, FLAC, APE built-in, a nice mass-tagger, and other cool stuff which comes together to make a fast, responsive player that's not memory hungry like some other audio players. Simply does its job, and does it well!
Pros: Fast, responsive, small memory footprint, free, powerful!
Cons: GUI is a bit plain--Columns_UI helps fix that but it's hard to configure. Stuff like ColumnsUI and title formatting configuration is a bit confusing!

Summary: KISS Keep it simple stupid
Details: I enjoy Foobar for it's simplicity and features. Today MP3 players are getting all skinned up and eating ram. This player is perfect for gamers, high end users or someone with a slow computer. It offers everything u need in a simple package. What else can u ask for in a player. Skins are kewl but who really needs or spends all day looking at them. Foobar u can have it always on top/transparent and not get in your way. So u can always select the song u want. just great.
Pros: Simple and easy on ram. Plays ALL formats.
Cons: None I see.
Period used: 2 year
Other products used: Winamp, WMP, Media player classic, BS player.

Summary: No messing about
Details: Foobar, no messin about. No slow memory sucking-skins, no boring visualisations, no crappy spyware. Just a simple but endlessly customizable open source media player. The interface is functional. The audio quality settings and DSP interfaces are the best I've seen. Plus, it has an undo function for playlist alterations. (lol @ windows media player users)
Pros: no skins, undo function, low memory usage
Cons: not final version
Period used: about a year, maybe slightly longer
Other products used: winamp 2, 3, 5; xmms; wmplayer; zoom player; itunes; bsplayer;
