Musicmatch Jukebox 8.20.0130 |
Summary: Huge database of Artist/Album information - substandard player
Details: This application earned an overall 4 rating due solely to the online features. It has correctly identified nearly every MP3 I have ever played. The ability to show information about the current playing MP3 is outstanding. There is almost always a review and a history for the artist, and always a relevant link to similar artists. Plus you can buy many of the MP3's with a single click. The "Artist Match Radio" is exceptional, and is usually good at offering music that matches my tastes. The major downfall is the lack of audio options. The player just doesn't sound all that great, and there's no way to fix that without paying for an extension. I'm putting up with it because I want access to the instant database, but true audiophiles will only be frustrated. Oh, and it also won't do full screen visuals by default (the most used feature I liked about WinAmp). There may be some paid way to do it, but I feel it should be a basic part of the package. I'd also like to see some more skins, but that'll come in time I'm sure. This is supposed to be an all-in-one audio application to burn CDs and send MP3s to mobile devices. The burner seem slow and clunkish, so I just continue to use Nero instead. I was able to upload MP3s to my Nomad Jukebox, but the ID tags had some "issues" if I didn't make sure the files were "registered" in the MusicMatch local library.
Pros: database of information and reviews
Cons: no audio options, limitied customization
Period used: over a year (I paid for some advanced features)
Other products used: WinAmp, Windows MP, Creative

Musicmatch Jukebox 9.0 |
Summary: Great playback features!
Details: I've always liked MusicMatch because it isn't as playlist oriented as many other players are. Two great features are: (1) AutoDJ, which randomly selects songs based on selection criteria and (2) "Play My Library", which is basically a shuffle mode against your entire song library. Way back, when I started using MusicMatch, it was the only player that offered things like that. Also has mp3PRO format that has good sound quality with reduced sampling rates (much smaller files!).
Pros: Random playback modes; mp3PRO format
Cons: Interface can be flaky at times

Musicmatch Jukebox 8.2 |
Summary: Don't downgrade to version 9!
Details: MusicMatch Jukebox 8.2 is perhaps the best complete-multimedia-software package available to the public. It's not perfect, albeit less so than are others, such as iTunes, WMP, Real, Winamp, etc. Consequently, MMJB should be tried first but consider all your options before you commit. Unfortunately, these software packages deliberately create a high cost of switching, so that once you establish a program to your desires, changing programs requires much time and attention.
Pros: Excellent CD ripping to MP3 software; Library management
Cons: Poor CD burning application
Period used: Three years

Summary: The Plus Version is great
Details: i use the upgraded plus version. It rips and burns at a higher rate than the free version. I used I-Tunes at the same time and did not like it. I know I am in a very small minority on that. I have loved Musicmatch's ease of use and many features. I have ripped 400+cd's onto my hard drive and re-burned some back into audio cd's with out a hitch. Try it out. I do not buy a lot of music online(I like to rip my MP3's to 320k and most music stores use a lower bitrate. Apple has the lossless format) Musicmatch store has a decent selection.
Pros: Easy to use, Burns all types of discs
