ZoomPlayer 4.02 |
Summary: ZoomPlayer: All-terrain, all-control, directshow based media player
Details: All-media player, audio, video, DVD, etc... (like WMP). It is extremely configurable, and lets you create specific filters for rendering media files. It is a very good player for nerds who want everything under control. It relays on directshow filters installed on the system, but can bypass MERITs or let you choose a especific combination of filters for superior playback (even DSP processing). It can also handle WinAMP plugins through DC-DSP. It is the choice of the smart people.
Pros: Custom filter configuration, extremely configurable ans skinnable.
Cons: Only real gurus can take the most from it.
Period used: 3 years
Other products used: WinAmp, foobar, XMMS, mplayer

ZoomPlayer v.4.00 |
Summary: The best player
Details: Zoom player is simply the best player with incredible codec support and options. Once I installed Zoom Player, I haven't needed any other media playback programs. Zoom Player plays movies (avi, mpeg, mov, ogm, flash etc...) and music (shoutcast, mp3, audio cd, wav, ogg, mod etc...) effortlessly. Fully customizable keyboard shortcuts for every single command you might need, including opening the CD drive. Fully customizable skins and buttons. You feel a bit lost, when you first open the Options window but after a while you can find everything you need. You'd better try it out for yourself. :)
Pros: codecs, subtitles, skins, customizable, keyboard shortcuts, doesn't crash, plays just about any file you can think of, equalizer, manually filtered codecs option, all in one
Cons: can't think of anything
Period used: 2 years
Other products used: winamp, real player, windows media player, apollo, some lite mp3 players, winDVD, Elecard mpeg 2 player, quicktime, nokia audio manager, divx operational player, DivX player, real jukebox, bsplayer

ZoomPlayer PRO with WMV |
Summary: The most flexible player out there
Details: When you first start this player, it will scan your computer for registered Direct Show filters and display the ones you are missing and will even provide the link to page where you can download the missing ones. Basic interface is simple and easy to understand, but the real power of this player is unleashed by downloading additional skins. Yes, SKINS. Zoom Player supports 177 skinnable buttons. Default skin has only a few basic ones (play, pause, playlist editor...) and all the advanced features can be put on one click distance by applying new skins. Skin I'm using (VISIBILITY 4) supports brightness, contrast and color control, internal equalizer, file info, slow motion playing and much more. This player is VERY flexible and allows you to modify all aspects of media playing. It features "Customized Media Playback", basically a harmless way to experiment with DShow filters, splitters and post-processors without affecting playback in other media player. All functions are accessible by keyboard shortcuts (164 of them) that are also customizable. Only drawback is that some options are very hard to find (it took me year and a half to realize that files opened from Windows can be added to playlist without clearing it). This great player is free in its "normal" version and PRO version only contains features that are really not necessary to average user. I really recommend this player.
Pros: Flexible, skinnable, won't interfere with other players, Direct Show filters management, free
Cons: Some basic options are burried deep in "Player options"
Period used: 2 years
Other products used: WMP, Real Player, BSplayer, VLC, Winamp, footbar2000

ZoomPlayer Standard? |
Summary: I think it is a very well rounded media player.
Details: I discovered the Zoom Player a few months ago. At first, I was worried there was no sort of free version, but then I realized Standard was the free version. Anyway, at first it was hard to get familiar with, because it lacked features like the toolbars you see at the top of applications such as WinAMP, and the Windows Media Player. As soon as I got the hang of it I was sailing. It plays nearly every file format known to man, all you have to do is install the proper codec thingies. I have found, that mp3 files that don't play in Windows Media Player because of some strange encryption thing, they will work with the Zoom Player.
Pros: The skins aren't an eyesore (most of them) and there are endless options for playing not normally found file types, all you have to do is install the pludin/codec thing, and they provide links to those at their site.
Cons: There is not toolbar at the top, and when playing video, there is no "original size" option. You also have to purchase the fancy version if you want to play dvds.
Period used: 2-3 months
Other products used: Foobar, WinAMP, Real Player, Windows Media Player, Dojo, and I think Nero Media layer.

ZoomPlayer 4.51 |
Summary: best player i know of
Details: after searching forever for "the perfect player", finally i found zoom player. what made it perfect for me was the many options it included. zoom player is probably the most feature rich player you'll find today. you can decide exactly how it'll behave, how it will play files and which codecs and filters it will use. this makes zoom player incredibly unique and proffesional, a player fit for anybody who knows "something" about video and codecs. i believe zoom player is becoming more popular as it is now included in some codec packs including cccp. i hope you decide to add this player.

Details: You can customize anything and everything with Zoom player. One of the beautiful things that I found about Zoom Player is it has so many features and yet it doesn't seem to be bloated down. Zoom player also has the option to set one touch commands with your mouse. Zoom Player is currently the most versatile and customizable solution for Video and Audio for Windows. It will even tell you at install time what common codecs are missing and where to download each of them.
Pros: It has and does everything one could ever desire from a free player, it even tells you what codecs you miss and provides download links for them
Cons: I can't think of any cons. I have tried all players there are and zoomplayer is perfect
