Amarok 1.1 |
Details: AmaroK is a nice mediaplayer with support for many backends. It is relatily simple to use but has slight deficits in the UI, mainly because the designers put their work into drag&drop(wich is very good supported) but loose sight of a real and clearly structured interface. It has a really good collection-browser, like WinAmp's Library. It is fast, because it's database based.
Pros: Collectionbrowser, backend-support
Cons: unstructered UI
Period used: 1/2 Year
Other products used: JuK(messed up my collection)

Summary: Amarok is a very nice player with very few missing features
Details: I can't quite give it a 5 because of a few crash problems, and the fact that it does not have a file rename feature like JuK, though it is still far better than it. amaroK rocks. Best player for KDE by far.

Amarok |
Summary: Makes a monkey of all other media players on bsd/linux.
Details: Finally, KDE has a killer media player. No more joking around with XMMS, this is of a similar level of quality to iTunes or WMP. It's a music player/jukebox specifically, and is like the juk/XMMS drag 'n' drop combo some KDE users favour. Great jukebox/media library with cover art integration etc, nice, stylish, tactile player. Not especially light on the resources, but certainly more stable, and less leaky than most so it's more conducive to a stable desktop. It plays nice. It's not skins-obsessed, and the default look has a gentle character and style you won't tire of easily. Finally! It's a top-notch piece of software.
Pros: As featureful as corporate mp products.
Cons: Not cross-platform.
Period used: 2 months.
Other products used: Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp, MusicMatch Jukebox, Juk, XMMS, zinf, Rhythmbox, Noatun, RealPlayer.

Amarok 1.2.1 |
Summary: Music player designed for KDE Desktop (*nix)
Details: Full featured music player with all the bells and whistles. Music library/metadata (optional mysql connection) based GUI with optional 'small' player window ala winamp. Stats built up on favourite songs etc, combined with the Audioscrobbler plugin can recommend new artists/bands. Album cover/Lyrics retrievals. Musicbrainz for fixing inaccurate tags, visualisations. Wide range of configuration options for different sound engines. Without a doubt the best and most ambitious music player I have used. I hate giving things really high marks like this, but I really cannot fault it in comparison to the opposition right now - blew me away (once I got it working!)
Pros: Features, Interface, Developing very quickly.
Cons: Can be difficult to set up with all the options. Might need to compile yourself - I did! It also isn't skinnable and there are no plans for it to be. This doesn't matter to me, but I know how much some of you like your skins. Haven't figured out how to ge
