They are best known for "In the Year 2525", written by Rick Evans. The song warned against the dangers of technology, portraying a future in which humanity would be destroyed by its inability to adapt to its own innovations. "In the Year 2525" hit number one on the charts in 1969. (It was number one on the day that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the Moon.)
