Vibes is a comedy film released in 1988 starring pop icon and singer Cyndi Lauper, actor Jeff Goldblum, actor Julian Sands and legendary actor Peter Falk. It was directed by Ken Kwapis. The movie, about Sylvia, a loopy, ditzy psychic woman, and Nick, her equally dim male psychic friend and their trip into the Himalayas to find the "source of psychic energy" was a huge critical and commercial failure.

Lauper plays Sylvia Pickel (pronounced with an emphasis on the "kel", as she points out), a trans-medium who has contact with a wisecracking spirit guide named Louise. She first began communicating with Louise after receiving a bump on the head as a child. She meets fellow psychic Nick Deezy, a psychometrist who can determine the history of events surrounding an object by touching it, at a study of psychics. Sylvia has a history of bad luck with men, and her overly flirtatious behaviour turns off Nick right away.
