The Normal is the name English film editor Daniel Miller used in 1978 for his 45rpm single "T.V.O.D."/"Warm Leatherette" (which was inspired by J.G. Ballard's novel Crash). He recorded also as Silicon Teens.

"Warm Leatherette" represented something new and exciting for many interested in a electronic music and beats with a D.I.Y. philosophy driving it. This track has been covered later on by such artists Grace Jones and Chicks on Speed. Miller formed Mute Records with the sole purpose of releasing his own electronic music.
