The Triffids were an Australian rock band who achieved some international success in the 1980s. Formed in Perth in the late 70s and disbanded in 1989, their best known songs are "Wide Open Road" and "Bury Me Deep In Love" (the latter used for the wedding of Harold and Madge in the TV series Neighbours). Their vocalist and principal songwriter was the late Dave McComb (1962-1999).

The Triffids began in the minds of two teenagers from Perth, Western Australia around the time that punk music crawled out of bed and gobbed at us in the mid 1970s. In 1976, Dave McComb and Alsy (Allan) MacDonald, musical fanatics and latent delinquents annoyed their parents with the songs they wrote and performed in the company of Phil Kakulas (currently Blackeyed Susans), Andrew McGowan, Julian Douglas-Smith and later Byron Sinclair, Will Akers and Margaret Gillard. Originally called Dalsy they soon became known as Blök Music and then The Triffids. They sang about cats, cheesecakes, hotels, gardens and ruthlessly satirised everything they saw. They were immensely unpopular. By Christmas 1978 they had released three home-recorded cassette tapes, been through several line-up changes and been attacked with lumps of ice by enraged audiences. If this was the music business they couldn't get enough of it.
