The Monochrome Set, a quintessentially English band, and eclectic to their core, were perhaps better respected within the industry than outside it. They emerged in 1978 from Hornsey Art School punks The B-Sides, whose members Andy Warren, Max and David Tampin, and Stuart Goddard, went off to form Adam And The Ants. The Monochrome Set comprised the other two Sides – singer Bid and guitarist Lester Square – along with J. D. Haney (percussion) and Charlie X, soon replaced by Simon Croft.
