The Lookouts were a punk rock band that existed from 1985 to 1990 in Laytonville, California. The members were Lawrence Livermore (more commonly known as Larry Livermore), guitar and vocals, Kain Kong, bass and vocals, and Tre Cool, drums and vocals. Looking to start a punk band, Livermore had trouble finding members, citing the majority of the local musicians being hippies and "completely uninterested in the music we wanted to make". In a last resort, Livermore introduced neighbor and 12 year old Frank Edwin Wright III to the drums. Taking an immediate interest in the instrument, Livermore, claiming the members needed "punk rock names" rechristened Wright "Tre Cool", or "very cool" in french. The Lookouts recorded two LPs, "One Planet One People" and "Spy Rock Road," and two EPs, "Mendocino Homeland" and "IV", all released on Lookout Records. The band came to an abrupt end when Livermore suggested to local band Green Day that they jam with Cool after the recent departure of their previous drummer John Kiffmeyer. After some struggles, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day formed a bond with Cool, and he was asked to join the band.
