The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by Anton Newcombe.

The band has undergone a large number of personnel changes; Newcombe is the only member who has played with the Brian Jonestown Massacre since its beginning. Tamborine player Joel Gion has stayed with him the longest. The band is unfortunately best known for their open advocacy of drug use and their feud with The Dandy Warhols, which is one of the subjects of the 2004 documentary DiG!. That documentary outlines the relationship between the two bands and the conflicts and the dilemmas bands are put into when dealing with record companies. The Dandys and BJM appear to have buried the hatchet, as Newcombe joined the Warhols onstage at Lollapalooza in July of 2005.
