The Automatic are a Welsh band difficult to define by genre. Described as everything from post-punk/emotional hardcore (emo) to "live clubbing music with an indie sensibility" (), and likened (by the NME) to "filling the void between The Blood Brothers and Interpol (band)", they began life as school friends in the not-very-rock-n-roll South Wales town of Cowbridge.
