Rhett Miller, born Stewart Ransom Miller II in Austin, Texas on September 6, 1970, is the lead singer of the alt-country band Old 97's as well as a successful solo musician. He graduated from St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas in 1989.
Miller briefly attended Sarah Lawrence College before dropping out after one semester. In 1990, Miller joined Murry Hammond and drummer Benjamin Warrenfells to form Sleepy Heroes, a Dallas-based "alterna-pop" band. They released one album, Under a Radio Sun, before their breakup.
