Nona Hendryx (born October 9, 1944) is a vocalist known for her work as a solo artist as well as one-third of the trio LaBelle. With LaBelle, she became the major songwriter from the time of Nightbirds, writing powerful ballads like "You Turn Me On" from Nightbirds and more uptempo numbers like "A Man In A Trenchcoat (Voodoo)" for LaBelle's last album Chameleon. In the early 80's she sang with experimental funk group Material while fronting her own progressive art-rock group Zero Cool.
Her music has ranged from soul, funk disco and R & B into Art rock and new age music. She has also sung backing vocals for the Talking Heads. Stylistically, she can sometimes be compared to Grace Jones or Chaka Khan.
