Nikolai Fraiture (November 13, 1978 in New York City ) is the bass player in the New York City-based band The Strokes. He grew up in New York, the son of Franco-Russian immigrants and as a result speaks fluent French. Nikolai was once caught shoplifting at the Macy's department store where his father was employed. He has an older brother named Pierre (who played center in the NCAA basketball championship for UCONN) and a much younger sister named Elizabeth.

While attending Hunter College Nikolai suffered from Lyme disease, an affliction his fellow band and schoolmate Nick Valensi wrote about in the school paper.
