L'Trimm was a Miami Bass duo composed of two teenage girls, Lady Tigra and Bunny D., from Miami. They had three albums, Grab It! in 1988 (when they were eighteen), Drop That Bottom in 1989 (which led to The Source naming them "Hip-Hop Goddesses of the Month"), and Groovy in 1991. Their single, "Cars With The Boom", classifies them as a one-hit wonder. The song has been referenced by many hip-hop artists, including Proof of D12 in his song Gurls Wit Da Boom.

Tigra and Bunny were childhood friends. They regualrly attended Starlight Express, a teen dance night in Miami that featured Hip-Hop and Miami Bass, which caused them to acquire a desire to become rappers. Much like most young aspiring rappers, they had no understanding of the industry, and their rapping was seen only as a hobby. However, their school-friend (in fact, their ride to school) was none other than the local rapper Mighty Rock of the group Double Duce. One afternoon on a drive home from school, Mighty Rock needed to stop by Henry Stone's Hot Productions office/studios. During the meeting, Tigra and Bunny bumbled their way into a recording booth and began rapping for fun. Paul Klein of Hot Productions caught the girls, and instead of being angry, decided a good-looking teen girl rap group would have quite a sizable cross-over appeal. He employed Larry Davis to construct some tracks and get the girls in the studio to record songs a.s.a.p. The group took their name form a then popular designer jean name "Trim", and added the "L'" to give it a French feel. A little coaching for the a-side hit singles allowed the girls to use their already written raps for the b-side album cuts, and within a very short time, the girls heard a song of theirs on local radio. Shocked, they called Hot Productions to express their surprise, which led to Paul exclaiming "what do you think we did all this for?!", before hanging up on them. Stage performances quickly followed, and it was well into the venture before the girls even realized they had just become signed recording artists with a mild local hit on their hands (Grab It). After Cars that Go Boom became a top 40 hit, national tours followed, prompting a joint deal with Atlantic Records for their second album.
