Los Angeles International Airport (IATA: LAX, ICAO: KLAX), is the primary airport serving Los Angeles, California. It is generally referred to by Californians simply as "LAX" (el-ay-ex). The airport is estimated to be the world's fourth busiest airport, serving some 60 million passengers and more than 2 million tons of freight in 2004. It is also the third busiest airport in the United States, and the busiest international gateway. It also handles more non-transferring passengers, that is, passengers whose final air destination is LAX, than any other airport in the world.

LAX has service to destinations in the United States, as well as to Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. It is a primary hub for United Airlines, a secondary hub for Alaska Airlines and America West, and a major focus city for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. It was previously a hub for Air California, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Pacific Southwest Airlines, US Airways, and Western Airlines, and the Flying Tiger Line.
