L. Subramaniam is an Indian violinist, trained in the classical Carnatic music tradition of southern India, but has dabbled in various other genres: he has recorded with Stéphane Grappelli, Yehudi Menuhin and others, written works for orchestra and film scores, and written books on Carnatic music.
Born in Sri Lanka into a musical family, 'Mani' as he is fondly known to fellow musicians, is a child prodigy. He gave his first public performance at the tender age of six. Both his father, V. Lakshminarayana, and his mother, V. Seethalakshmi were accomplished musicians. L. Subramaniam and his equally talented and gifted younger brothers L. Shankar and L. Vaidyanathan are ample testament to the musical talent of this family.
