John Sykes, born July 29 1959 in Reading, England, is a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock guitarist in the United Kingdom who has played in bands Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Blue Murder and his solo project John Sykes. He was also in a band called Badlands, with his one time Whitesnake bandmate Neil Murray, but this was not the same Badlands that guitarist Jake E. Lee was in.

His most acclaimed playing is on the 1987 Whitesnake self titled record also known simply as 1987. This was Whitesnake's most successful recording, and songs like "Crying in the Rain", "Still of the Night", "Is This Love?", "Here I Go Again" and "Children of the Night" were hits.
