Harnen was born and raised in Pennsylvania in the small town of Plymouth, and formed Synch in the 1985,with original members, Dave Abraham guitar, Lou Butwin Lead Vocal,(Harnen was the original drummer), Jim Donnelly bass, Chuck Yarmey keyboard. They recorded the first version of "Where Are You Now? in Northumberland, PA at Susquehanna Sound.... Later formed another generation with Bill (keyboards) and Rich (drums) Kossuth, Jon Lorance (guitar), Chuck Yarmey (keyboards), and Mike Warner (bass) in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Harnen and Synch recorded the single, "Where Are You Now?," for WTG/Columbia Records in 1989, and when released it proved to be a hit going to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and #3 on the Adult Contemporary Chart. Following it up proved to be not as easy however, and Synch never charted again. Harnen broke up the band in the mid-90s.
