He is widely popular for being a very active proponent of the hardcore movement. Some of those in the underground circles believe Jasta and Hatebreed have sold out, so to speak, for a number of reasons: their songs are considered by many to sound the same, the lyrics are very simple and at some points repetitive, bland and dumbed-down, and they have taken a great advantage of their newfound popularity. Jamey founded Hatebreed in order to "keep hardcore real", yet by signing to a major label and becoming a VJ on MTV, Hatebreed has brought hardcore to the shopping malls of America, the absolute antithesis of the original hardcore ethic.
