Hiroshima is an American jazz fusion band formed in 1974 by Sansei Japanese American Dan Kuramoto (wind instruments & band leader), June Kuramoto koto (the only founding member who is not American-borned. She moved to Los Angeles from Saitama-ken, her place of birth at a young age.), Johnny Mori (Percussion & taiko, & Danny Yamamoto (keyboards & drums). Named after the city (see Hiroshima) that was hit by an atomic bomb, they are best known for the fusing of Japanese music & other forms of world music into their playing. Their early jazz-pop R&B sound gave them a hugh following among the African American community. The highlight for Hiroshima was being an opening performance for the late Miles Davis's 1990 world tour. Since then, despite moving towards new age music, Hiroshima continues to gain a wider audience for their music.
