Gym Class Heroes is a four member hip-hop/indie band from upstate New York. Instead of the conventional looped samples and canned beats, Gym Class Heroes uses live instruments and musicians. The band has produced an original hip-hop sound fusing crisp guitar rhythms, deep melodic bass lines, head cracking beats, and conscious lyrics.

Gym Class Heroes was formed in the late months of 1997 by four high school students. Within a few rehearsal sessions, a few songs were written and they decided to call themselves "Gym Class Heroes." With a diverse background in musical styles, tastes, listening backgrounds and experience, the band naturally formed a sound, which represented the diversity of the members. The theme of diversity often is attached to the name "Gym Class Heroes" with everything from subject matter of songs, to bands they've shared the stage with. Playing with rock, punk, ska, hip-hop, feminist slam poets, experimental jazz-fusion, and reggae acts, a typical crowd at a GCH show is very diverse. Their first record entitled "...For the Kids" was created in 2002. After this release Travis, the band's singer, was asked to be in MTV's Direct Effect MC Battle. Travis wowed the crowd, and as a result won this competition. After his success, he was in Style P's video "Daddy Get that Cash." Gym Class Heroes has opened for popular acts such as Naughty by Nature,Fat Joe, and Cam'ron.
