Gatsbys American Dream is a fairly prolific, Seattle, Washington-based rock band. Although it's widely agreed the band is hard to classify into one subgenre, it can be said they draw influence from alternative pop/rock, indie pop, indie rock, post-hardcore, and punk-pop.

The band signed to local record label Rocketstar Recordings at the beginning of their career, and soon thereafter issued their debut full-length in 2002, Why We Fight. The band's followup, 2003's Ribbons & Sugar, was a concept album loosely based on George Orwell's Animal Farm that suddenly found the band forming a lyrical base around numerous literary references including the aforementioned. It also found them exploring ambitious experimental pop, opting for strange time signatures and tempo changes. Following its release, the band started to field numerous offers from other, bigger record labels.
