Eternal Tears of Sorrow (commonly abbreviated to EToS) is a melodic death metal band, that incorporates symphonic metal music in their songs. They formed in Pudasjärvi in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. Also, Eternal Tears of Sorrow have sometimes being considered a Gothic metal band due to some gothic metal influences on their albums. Eternal Tears of Sorrow was a death metal/doom metal band on their demos and on their first release Sinner's Serenade.

The band was officially formed in 1994 by Jarmo Puolakanaho, Altti Veteläinen and Olli-Pekka Törrö, after some previous various metal projects, and start to playing the thrash metal (Early demos) and black metal with thrash metal and Traditional doom metal influences (Later demos) (Andromeda, M.D.C, D.W.N) between 1991 and 1994, involving some or all of the three members.
