Boston College kids from the Drop Nineteens (1991-1994) were one of the several US-based bands to style themselves on England's distinctive shoegazer sound (others included Black Tambourine). To some extent the band were actually better known in the UK, which had ironically ditched shoegazing for grunge by the time the band came to the attention of the music press there.

Signed to Caroline Records and taking their inspiration from the genre's most celebrated icons, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, the band immediately garnered college radio airplay with their 1992 debut album, Delaware. Formed by Greg Ackell (vocals, guitar), Paula Kelley (vocals, guitar), Steve Zimmerman (bass), and Motohiro Yasue (guitar), the Drop Nineteens were also informed by the loud-soft formula of fellow Boston College rock favourites The Pixies.
