Hardcore music is frequently considered to be as much a lifestyle as an artistic genre. However, an interest in solely aggro music and little else outside the realm of brutal power-chords can not only be limiting, it can quite simply be boring. Death Threat, seen by many as one of the most urgent, ferocious bands under the hardcore umbrella, are committed to the hardcore lifestyle. Peace and Security, their full-length debut in 2000, demonstrates that these Connecticut boys are well versed in hardcore history from the Cro-Mags onward. However, their new record, For God and Government, is less focused on strictly hardcore music, showing a broadening of scope by Death Threat, opening the way for a "fun" album. For God and Government is harsh, driving, and urgent, but at the same time catchy and just melodic enough to be humble.
