Dashboard Confessional is an American Acoustic/Electric guitar driven emo rock outfit led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Carrabba from Boca Raton, Florida. The current lineup includes Carrabba (guitar, vocals), Scott Shoenbeck (bass guitar), John Lefler (guitar), and Mike Marsh (drums). Carrabba's first venture with Further Seems Forever was nowhere near as successful as the Dashboard Confessional project. They became more popular by appearing on soundtracks such as Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2. Dashboard Confessional was started in 2000.

The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of Chris' songs, The Sharp Hint of New Tears. The line "On the way home, this car hears my confessions" gave Chris the idea. Contrary to popular belief, Dashboard Confessional refers only to Chris Carrabba as he originally intended it to be a solo project. He addressed this misunderstanding saying, "What rulebook says it has to be called your name if you're one guy?"
