Quebec technical death metal band Cryptopsy was founded in 1992 by vocalist Lord Worm and guitarist Steve Thibault as Necrosis in 1992. The band quickly recruited now legendary drummer Flo Mounier, bassist Kevin Weagle, and guitarist Dave Galea. The band shortly later changed their name to Cryptopsy after finding out a Florida death metal band was already named Necrosis. In 1993, the band released their debut demo, Ungentle Exhumation. This earned them some attention in the death metal underground, as well as the German label Invasion Records.
