Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Ali moved to Minneapolis at age 15, where he eventually became a member of Rhymesayers Entertainment, the underground hip-hop label founded by Atmosphere frontman, Slug. Though originally self-producing his tape-only "Rites of Passage" 2000 release, Brother Ali has since turned to ANT (Anthony Davis) to produce his most recent albums: Shadows on the Sun, and the Champion EP.
