Blue Angel

Blue Angel was the name of the band that featured a pre-fame Cyndi Lauper. They were popular on the New York rockabilly scene, and performed typical late 1970's style cover versions of pop standards

Blue Angel was the name of the band that featured a pre-fame Cyndi Lauper. They were popular on the New York rockabilly scene, and performed typical late 1970's style cover versions of pop standards (most notably a rendition of Mann/Weil's "I'm Gonna Be Strong", which Lauper would later re-record as a solo artist). The band's album did moderately well, and helped to launch lead singer Lauper into superstardom.

Their only album, also titled Blue Angel, was released in 1980 to critical acclaim and moderate sales. It featured a red cover with photos of the band members including Lauper, John Turi (keyboards, saxophone), Johnny "Bullet" Morelli" (drums, Lee Brovitz (bass guitar) and Arthur "Rockin' A" Neilson (guitar). Like much of Lauper's later solo career the band was far more successful internationally than in their home country of America. The album's only chart success was in the Netherlands where it reached #37. This was only however in the singles chart and not in the album chart.
