Soul musician Billy Preston was born on September 9, 1946 in Houston, Texas and raised mostly in Los Angeles, California. He began playing piano while sitting on his mother's lap at age three. He has collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry, including: Aretha Franklin, Sammy Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, Eric Clapton, The Jackson Five, and The Rolling Stones.
He is probably best known for his work with The Beatles (he is the only artist to receive label credit on a Beatles single: Get Back). He played on many of the tracks on their 1970 Let It Be album, on I Want You (She's So Heavy) on 1969 Abbey Road album and on some of the solo records of John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. In the 1970s he also went on to a successful chart career in his own right.
