Biffy Clyro are an alternative music trio, formed in the mid-1990s in Ayr, Scotland. They were initially called Screwfish, but soon changed the name to Biffy Clyro, presumably as a result of a spoonerism relating to a Cliff Richard biro, although many other tales for the current name are given by the band members themselves. They have firmly established themselves within the alternative rock music scene in Britain, and enjoy support from a fiercely devoted fanbase as well as praise from their band contemporaries (such as Hundred Reasons, Hell Is For Heroes and Reuben).

The phrase "Mon the Biffy" is now synonymous with the band, seeing its use evolve from the bands friends in early, half empty gigs in King Tut's Wah Wah Hut to the much wider and established fanbase, as well as such luminaries as Zane Lowe and John Peel. The band grin and bear it, but are reputedly not overly fond of the cry; it is, however, infinitely preferable to the other option: "Up the Clyro", which was championed in some quarters.
