He is known for his numerous collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis, including his work on Forrest Gump (1994), the Back to the Future (1985-1989-1990) trilogy, Contact (1997), Cast Away (2000), Romancing the Stone (1984), and others. He received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Soundtrack for Forrest Gump (1994) and a Grammy Award for the music from Cast Away (2001) and The Ant Bully.
