Akira are a London 3-piece alternative rock/post-rock band. They formed in a car-crash on November the 9th, 2001 in Cambridge, England. A year after their creation, they began playing small local shows and garnered positive feedback. Then in the early summer of 2003 they released “Demonstration” a three-track CD that included the fan-favourite “81 Minutes.” They recorded a second demo which they termed “Selections of Modern Music E.P.” This was released in the autumn of 2003. In the summer of 2004 the band moved to London.

Akira have been compared to other bands such as: Avril Lavigne, Rooster, The Others and Thelonius Monk. They have supported a variety of bands, such as: Six by Seven, Chikinki, Cat on Form and Amy Winehouse.
